Great Product for a great coffee maker!! October 11, 2008 Karen S. (East Bay , CA) I love this. It allows me to use my favorite brand of coffee in my Keurig coffee maker, which BTW, I think is the best coffee maker ever! It's a little loud, but it's awesome!!
Here's a tip for stronger coffee October 10, 2008 V. Germano (Bay Area, CA) After reading many reviews about the problems with the My K-Cup and experimenting on my own, I have found an easy solution to the problem of weak coffee using this filter. As others have noted, the water goes through the My K-Cup way too fast as compared to the K-Cups. My solution was to take apart a K-Cup and use the outer plastic shell with the My K-Cup filter. Here's all you need to do: Take a used K-Cup and cut the top foil off of a K-Cup. Cut the paper filter out of the K-Cup. It's okay not to cut it all the way off of the rim of the K-Cup because you will need to cut the top of the K-Cup (where it gets wider at the top). You need to cut the top of the K-Cup off because you need to fit the K-Cup shell into the My K-Cup holder. Once you slide the bottom shell of the K-Cup into the holder, you can add your coffee into the My K-Cup (tapping or gently pressing the coffee so that it is not loose inside the filter). Then place the My K-Cup filter into the holder and cover as normal. When brewing, the K-Cup shell surrounds the My K-Cup filter and slows down the water by making it pass through the punctured hole that the prepackaged K-Cup normally uses. The great thing about this is that you can re-use the K-Cup shell that you cut apart over and over so once you have cut one apart you don't have to worry about it again- use the My K-Cup as you normally would. I'm hoping Keurig will have figured this out in the near future and add a premade piece that is included the My K-Cup, but until then, I have found that this solves the problem of weak coffee.
Very handy October 10, 2008 Paula (Mesa, Arizona) It does what it says on the box.... My only problem with this coffee maker was having to stop and clean the filter between cups, whereas I had a pot to pour from previously. The k-cups are expensive, and with these filters I can fill them both at the start of the morning and get a fresh cup of coffee quickly, then clean the filters together after my meal.
A Nice Backup, But October 9, 2008 J. Kang (Chicago) This thing does what it says it will. As others have said, it is sort of flimsy. I used gourmet, ground coffee (dark) as my test coffee. It honestly tasted pretty watered down, and I would say the results are unspectacular compared to a Mr. Coffee or even the Green Mountain Dark Magic or Double Black Diamond -- my k-cup du jour. If you like strong coffee and don't want to use k-cups, then get a regular brewer. The effort of tossing a filter on a regular machine is about the same and you can control the strength of the coffee better than this. Filling the whole thing resulted in a relatively weak coffee. My parents may enjoy the strength of it, but for anybody looking for a strong cup of inspiration this simply will lead to disappointment. Let me also go on a tangent to mention that recycling -- except for cans -- generally is a net loss to the environment due to transportation, sorting, energy, and re-production costs. Landfills account for less than 1% of the total land mass of the U.S. have stringent laws about sealing. Furthermore, they often generate a great deal of gas which is used as alternative energy. Buy this "eco-friendly" product if you want to feel good about yourself, but don't think you are doing much for the environment.
For your Favorite Choice of Coffee - This is a must accessory October 9, 2008 David A. DeOrto (Seattle WA USA) My office has the Keurig coffee system. I bought the filter so I can use my choice of coffee. The Pods available on the market was very limited. I am not saying that the companies who made the Pods produced bad coffee, but I, as many other people, like their own brand and strength of coffee. The problem with the pods was the fact that they were premeasured to taste of someone else. This filter solves this issue. Everyone in the office was able to bring their own brand of coffee, and we really enjoy the Keurig coffee system. If you have the Keurig system, I would strongly recommend that you add this accessory for better enjoyment of your system.
